What if we don't know anything about prenups?
This is our mission! We love helping couples understand the ins and outs of prenups. During your kickoff meeting, you will learn about the many ways that California law impacts your rights upon marriage and how a prenup can modify your rights. This education is invaluable and we believe that every couple should go through this process so that they start their marriage informed and with a common understanding.
How far in advance do we need to get our prenup?
Ideally, your prenup will be done before you send out your wedding invitations. However, if that has passed, we suggest that you begin the process as soon as possible. California law requires that the final draft of your prenup be completed no less than seven (7) days before you sign it. So, if you don't want to be thinking about this near your wedding date, start the process today!
Do we need to have our own attorneys?
California law requires that both partners have separate attorneys if the prenup has provisions related to spousal support. However, even without spousal support provisions, it is always best practice for each party to have separate attorneys who will review and sign the agreement. This is the reason our programs include a one-hour session for each partner with separate attorneys, or you can retain a different attorney if you prefer.
What if we already know what we want to do and don't need a mediator?
That's great! Schedule a consultation and we will discuss a streamlined program option best suited for you.
